Charming Mijas Pueblo | Day trip from Malaga & Marbella

Updated January 23, 2024

Nestled in the mountainside at 400 meters above sea level, Mijas Pueblo is a charming ”White Village” located just above the coastal resort of Fuengirola. It’s a place that combines traditional Spanish atmosphere, green mountain shrubbery, and the blues of the Mediterranean sky which makes Mijas Pueblo the perfect base for a peaceful mini-break or a day trip from one of Andalucia’s main cities.

Mijas is a very touristy place but it definitely hasn’t compromised its charm by any means. This pretty town boasts the traditional gems, little shops with traditional handmade ceramics, cosy cafes, restaurants and hotels where the hosts will make you feel like a part of their Spanish family.

How to get there:

The easiest way to get to Mijas Pueblo is by car (you will enjoy some really beautiful road views on the way) and the drive takes only about 30 minutes from Malaga/Marbella. There are also bus routes from Malaga and other nearby towns (you can check the schedule on this website).

Mijas Pueblo is a perfect place for ”no plan” kind of day so allow yourself to wander around the prettiest, narrow streets, look out for whitewashed buildings decorated with seasonal flowers, try local produce and visit local churches and hermitages.

Places to visit in Mijas Pueblo:
  • Visit Parque La Muralla (Viewpoint)
  • La Boveda del Flamenco
  • Plaza de la Libertad
  • Chocolate Factory
  • El Compás (Viewpoint)
  • San Sebastián Street
