Andalusia: Experience slower pace of Marbella

Updated January 23, 2024

Most travellers are drawn here for the splendor, lavish nightlife and luxury shopping. I wanted to experience the slow life, beautiful beaches, cosy cafes, the Mediterranean cuisine and unforgettable, early morning bike rides chasing sunrises.

Boho Villa hidden among the quiet neighbourhood of Playa san Pedro de Alcántara

Beautiful, serene home away from home with a private pool – this place will forever be one of my favourite Airbnb finds!

Marbella: Beautiful, Boho Villa with Private Pool

Located in the outskirt of Marbella, our Boho Villa was set in a quiet, cosy neighbourhood only 5min away from Playa san Pedro de Alcántara – a beautiful, sandy beach with large, lively promenade filled with cosy restaurants and cafes.

Marbella Old Town

This place is so beautiful because of everything it lacks: full-moon parties, luxury stores, hustle. Known as the Casco Antiguo, Marbella Old Town has many cobbled streets with the whitewashed houses and colourful flowers dotted around. It’s a place for wine, tapas, flamenco music and mindful walks.

Puerto Banús

Quite opposite of above – Puerto Banús is a vibrant, busy place loved by wealthy people, their superfast cars and expensive yachts, but just like any other place of such kind – Puerto Banus can be visited without the intention of designer shopping. Although this was my least favourite part of Marbella – it is indeed worth visiting purely for its unique vibe.

Recommended restaurant in Puerto Banus: Amore & Fantasia Restaurant.

Marbella’s suburbs: San Pedro de Alcántara

This is where we’ve stayed and we loved this area the most. Loads of beautiful beaches, cycling routes, cosy cafes and chilled atmosphere. Playa de San Pedro de Alcántara in particular is a lovely beach – white sands, beautiful promenade, very peaceful and tranquil.

Recommended in this area: Playa Nini Beach restaurant and ámmo Beach Club.

Playa de las Chapas & Nikki Beach Restaurant & Beach Club

I’m sure most of you heard of Nikki Beach, it’s one of the most popular and in fact the prettiest Beach Club in Spain. Nikki Beach is the first and original luxury concept that combines the elements of music, dining, entertainment, fashion, film and art into one hence it’s always super-busy. It’s located on one of the finest white sandy beaches in Spain. Comprised of a swimming pool with sunbeds on a raised deck, large open-air restaurant, centrally located octagon-shaped bar, lifestyle boutique and a terrace with spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. Even if you’re not planning to use their facilities, eat or drink – you can still access this place to have a little peak.

Overall I think Marbella is a place for everyone, literally. Slow travellers, Fun-seekers, Families – this city is just so versatile and beautiful!
