Weekend in St. Leonards | Charming Seafront Apartment

Updated July 19, 2023

This Valentines weekend away was exactly what we needed after a few, super busy weeks filled with hard work. We drove all the way down to East Sussex and stayed at the most adorable apartment in St. Leonards.

Whenever I think of a weekend away, Cornwall is always my initial thought – but I feel like we’ve sort of underestimated all other parts of the UK which is why I thought – maybe Sussex be a good idea? And despite an absolutely AWFUL weather… it was!

Unfortunately, there are things we can’t control when planning the journey – and weather is one of them. That’s just one of the reasons why I choose to stay at beautiful hotels/airbnb’s, just in case I get trapped indoors due to bad weather just like during our weekend away in St. Leonards.

Regency seafront apartment

The Regency Apartment is located on the main street, facing the sea, in an old, Victorian building. The apartment has two bedrooms with double beds, living room with kitchen and a bathroom. The apartment is beautifully decorated, absolutely loved the rustic interiors, the host is a photographer/designer so no wonder this apartment is so cosy and charming! The main highlight for me was a wide selection of books and huge windows overlooking the sea and even though it was raining the whole time, I couldn’t get enough of this view. Stylish, lovely and warm apartment with lots of thoughtful touches!

If you are coming by car, there is free two hour parking outside and around the apartment from 8am-6pm. After two hours you will need to move your car. West of the apartment along the main coast road (Marina) and behind Marine Court, there’s completely free 24 hour parking. Sometimes it’s easy to find space, sometimes a little harder but you should be ok.

Drop down to the seafront for a visit to Goat Ledge, a St Leonards destination cafe mustn’t be missed. They sell locally caught fish sandwiches and much more. Hastings Pier is a few minutes walk along the seafront. Recommended eateries are St Clements for a fine dining experience, Half-Man Half-Burger for great… burgers! And Pizzarelli for take-away and delivered delicious pizzas, or eat in at the new restaurant space. Bella Vista, a short hop from the flat is a traditional and great quality Italian. Graze on the seafront is great, with a good wine list. There’s also Tommy’s Pizzeria on the corner of Norman Road. A little further west along Marina is The Edge cafe, beautifully decorated and great for a light lunch or coffee and cake. All within easy walking distance.

My favourite cafe was definitely Hanushka Coffee House, an ideal place for all book lovers

St. Leonards is rather quiet, so not many pubs and no nightlife – however, it’s just perfect for a relaxed weekend away.

St Leonards is based 17 miles from Eastbourne and 40 miles from Brighton, so if you are staying in Hastings for more than a couple of days, then definitely consider a day trip to one of those.
